(Review taken from Derry's Facebook Post) What a great joy it was to welcome David Starr & Erik Stucky to The Woodman Folk Club Last Friday, (15th of May). These two mega-artistes, all the way from the USA, put on a show that was truly awesome. Presenting beautifully crafted songs, skilfully played, and expertly delivered by two of America’s finest musicians. A warm and friendly approach, together with an intuitive sense of humour, demonstrated how years of experience underpinned an authentic, impressive stage-presence resulting in an awesome and delightful show. This was a very special treat for us all at the Woodman FC, we were all blown away by such stunningly good song writing, the exceptional virtuosity of the playing, the precise authenticity of the vocals and the genuinely warm presentation. David and Erik loved the responsive Woodman audience and we loved them right back! They shall return. Stunning! The opening act was the superb Velvet Green; a duo whose song-book knows no bounds. Variety is Velvet Green’s secret weapon, and the safety was set to OFF! taking us on a musical adventure consisting of original gems and cherished favourites. A clever re-interpretation and mixing of existing songs by our favourite artists was a new skill showcased by Paul and Sue and it worked a treat! Oh, and by the way, Velvet Green were highly successful at tweaking all of our funny bones on the way. Just brilliant! MC Bryn, (Bryn Phillips), was our jovial Master of Ceremonies, who’s experience, tolerance and sense of playfulness served to guide things along, seamlessly. Our thanks also to Mr Gary and Mr John, on all things AV and to the Techy-up/Techy-down teams. You are all stars. Mega-thanks to The Ashwood Marina Staff, guys and girls, who tirelessly supply us with hot/cold/alcoholic beverages, crisps, chocolate, cobs and host the Woodman Folk Club every Friday.
