(Review taken from Derry's Facebook Post) A massive thank you for a truly wonderful night. The fantastic Flossie Malavialle stormed onto the Woodman stage and delivered a stunningly dynamic, skilful and tremendously entertaining show. It had been seven long years since Flossie last appeared at the Woodman Folk Club, and we all agreed that it was far too long an absence for an artist of such calibre and charisma. Now, Flossie was back, and back with a bang! Flossie used her phenomenal skills to the greatest effect from the first song, all the way through to the final rousing encore. Flossie has an amazing voice and the talent and experience to utilise it to its full extent. From soulful Blues, classical blockbusters, power-ballads’, to out of this world top-register whistle-tones, Flossie’s incredible vocal range is stunning. To support this amazing musical superpower, Flossie has developed an extensively flexible guitar style, ranging from delicate finger-picking to full-on rock vamps and power-chords. As if that wasn’t enough, Flossie had another little musical treat for us. Oli Jobes, a master of guitar and all things melodic, came on stage to join Flossie for a few awesome numbers. Icing on the musical harmonious cake, or what! I can’t finish this review without mentioning the hilarious banter and stories that Flossie uses to make her show all encompassing, fully involving the audience in all aspects of the evening. Flossie Malavialle: Géniale! The marvellous Velvet Green were brave enough and talented enough to open for Flossie, and did a grand job too. Sue has a wonderfully soothing, precise voice that delivers beautifully harmonic vocal lines. Paul writes and co-writes some wonderfully constructed songs that cover a whole range of subjects, from historical events to charming romantic journeys through life, each enhanced by a subtle guitar style, delivered with both skill and confidence. Velvet Green also perform covers that are much-loved, but not covered too often by other artists, this enables them to build interesting and inspiring themed sets, which in itself is a rare talent. Superb! Hats off the MC Chris for guiding us through the evening. More thanks to the Techy-up, Techy-down teams, Mr Gary and Mr John B for all things AV. Last but definitely not least; a massive thank you to all the staff and customers of the Ashwood Marina, for all their love and support. Enjoy Yourself! Derry & Deb xx |
