Hi everyone, Woody here again with a review of another fabulous night at the Woodman Folk Club; and as the chimes of Left Bank Two by the Noveltones faded into the distance the evening was opened by our MC, Mr Chris Irvine.

Chris introduced our support act, the Woodman’s very own Velvet Green (Sue and Paul).
Sue and Paul entertained us with half a dozen “love related” songs, starting with “Baby Hold On” written by Paul. The remainder of their set contained two more songs written by Paul and songs by Ashley Hutchings and Keith Donnelly, finishing off with “If Not for You” by Bob Dylan. All in all, a lovely, varied set performed with style and aplomb.

Our MC, Chris, then invited our main guests, Charlie Dore and Julian Littman, to the stage. I counted 8 instruments waiting for them on stage - guitars, ukuleles, mandolin, keyboard and harmonium. Clearly, we were in for a great night!

We were treated to, what Charlie described as, “a casserole of songs”. They started with a song triggered, Charle said, by Dominic Cummings, called “Collateral”. A thought-provoking start. The evening continued with well-crafted songs of such variety and musical virtuosity as to be truly captivating. Such variety included a song inspired by an article in New Scientist about pheromones, “Looking like my Mother but acting like my Dad”. This brought smiles and knowing looks all round. We had songs about milk teeth, IVF, even a fly that got squashed on 9th July. Such word-craft, such variety. Charlie and Julian finished with the ever-popular “Pilot of the Airwaves” which left the Woodman audience begging for more. One final song then – “Looking for my own Lone Ranger” left everyone going home happy.
