Hi Folkies, in case any of you hadn’t realised it yet the Woodman Folk
Club HAS NOW RE-OPENED and our first few weeks have been nothing short of
All the guest artists, support artists and participants in the floor spots on Singers’ Nights have all said how wonderful it is to be back out performing to LIVE people, (well some of us anyway!!), after the hiatus of the last eighteen months or so. November promises to be another good month’s entertainment so without further ado I bring you……….
Friday November 5th , forget the bonfire and come along and watch, (or take part in), another of our sensational Singers’ Nights. Don’t be disappointed, these singers’ nights are normally over-subscribed, so please contact Debby or Derry on 01384 560462 to ensure you get a floor spot, we have a maximum of 14 slots. Alternatively just come and enjoy the talent on display. A great night is guaranteed!
Then on the 12th of the month we will be extremely delighted to welcome a return of an old club favourite and good friend, Mike Silver. This will in fact be Mike’s twelfth visit to the club since the start of this century. After many years of hard work Mike became an ‘overnight’ success when the late Terry Wogan on Radio 2 played his song “A Matter of Pride” extensively. Mike is probably one of the most popular performers on the folk scene and his visits to The Woodman invariably become one of the highlights of the year. He’s released a new CD since his last visit too so you might want to check out the merchandise table.
The 19th brings us another real treat. We are proud to present none other than Huw Williams. Well my goodness, this has been a long time coming!! Back in the day, (literally in the last century!!), Huw & Tony Williams were regular visitors to the Woodman and were always a very popular attraction. They performed their last tour together in 2001 and went their separate ways. Huw has subsequently carved out a very successful career for himself both as a solo performer and as manager of the Welsh folk supergroup Calan. Huw is a prolific songwriter and is well known for such classics as ‘Rosemary’s Sister’ and ‘The Summer Before The War’ which we all know and love. It may have been a long time coming but it will definitely have been worth waiting for. Welcome back Huw.
Finally for another exciting month, on Friday the 26th we are pleased to host yet another firm favourite duo in our friends Winter Wilson. Being regular club visitors over recent years Kip and Dave will be making their fourth Woodman appearance tonight, but incredibly it was back in 2018 that they last appeared! Of course we’ve all lost about 18 months to the dreaded ‘C’ word so I guess that’s why it seems so long ago. You can reliably expect masterful renditions of beautiful songs, beautifully sung, stunning harmonies, thought-provoking and often challenging lyrics, all held together with an infectious, off-the-wall humour all of their own. They had a triumphant night with us last time they were here and we are delighted to welcome them back again.
And that shallot as they say down at the allotment! December will be a different month this year as for the first time in living memory, (well mine anyway), we will not be presenting the famous Woodman panto, but worry not folkies because plans are afoot to present something special in place of it, but more on that in next month’s exciting edition!!
