Well 2014 has bin ‘n gone as they say in these parts. We hope you’ve all had an enjoyable festive break and now its time to welcome in the 2015 season with a fun-packed January line up as follows:-

Friday the 9th opens the year with another of our legendary Singers’ Nights. Don’t be disappointed, these singers nights are normally over-subscribed so do please contact Debby or Derry on 01384 560462 to ensure you get a floor spot, we have a maximum of 14 slots. Alternatively just come and enjoy the talent on display. A great night is guaranteed!

On the 16th we welcome the little leprechaun himself Tommy Dempsey. Tommy has been delighting and amusing audiences on the Birmingham and surrounding music scene for well in excess of 100 years now! At least it seems like that, and we would have been much the poorer musically speaking, without this little fella from Dublin! The band is a bit of a moveable feast, but as well as the man himself on vocals and bodhran, you can expect to see a fiddler, a guitarist, possibly a mandolin…maybe a whistle, who knows? All I can say for sure is that it’s been too long, so welcome them back with shakers at the ready, you’ll be needing ‘em!

Friday the 23rd we will be presenting another local legend, Bill Caddick. Incredibly, Bill has been a performing musician for fifty years now, so he knows a thing or two about the game, and he’s not been with us at the Woodman since 2009 so it’ll be really good to see him again. Someone once wrote “an evening in the company of Mr. Caddick and his music is like wearing a warm friendly jacket. The songs that he has written have found their own niche and are as unique as the style in which they are played”. Sums it up better than I ever could.

And just to complete a trio of local acts, the 30th sees the return to the club of Kim Lowings and the Greenwood. Kim and the band were last with us just about a year ago and went down a storm with the audience on the night and you just know you’re in for a treat when Kim and the guys are on. In the intervening year I’ve had the pleasure of catching the band again on several occasions, each one better than the last. Kim is gaining in confidence, stage presence and purity of her vocals at every performance and the band as a whole has gelled to perfection. Should be good!

Not a bad start I reckon, so here’s to 2015…..bring it on!!

Cheers

Rob
