Hi Folks

Back to the normal four Fridays for this month folks but never fear as they promise to be four fantastic nights of amazing music and the usual mayhem. So….…..shakers at the ready….…….we have:-

On the 7th February we again present Pete Morton. Its’ been over three years since Pete last entertained us with his own self-penned material and distinctive interpretations of traditional songs. After he last appeared at the club, Bryn found this review of him on the Amazon web site, and I think it says it all:-
"Pete Morton has the most incredible and unusual voice; strong, wide-ranging, and accurate. As for his wordsmithing - clever, funny, moving, thought-provoking - all of these and more - I want him to sing at my funeral!!" (Magic Granny –whoever she may be).

Then on 14th February we have newcomers to the club Broom Bezzums. Mark Bloomer & Andrew Cadie, currently based in Germany, top flight songwriters and multi-instrumentalists, as well as beautiful harmonies bring to the stage fiddle, guitars, mandola, Northumbrian pipes and bass drum. With all hands, mouths and feet in action you could be listening to a five-piece band! Broom Bezzums strike a keen balance between traditional music and the creative freedom of new wave folk. Rumour has it that they may be augmented on the night with a third member on bass!

The 21st February sees us welcoming yet another duo new to the club in the guise of River City Portrait. Formed in 2008 and formerly known as Groucutt and Haynes they are the folk/folk-rock partnership of Robin Groucutt and Dan Haynes and they have been writing, recording and touring ever since. Their first album ‘Another Good Reason’ came out in 2009 and their second, ‘Sunlight In Nightmares’ (released under the new name), came out last year. They are a locally based band and now have the addition of a bass to complement the sound. They have some pedigree in the genes as Robin’s late father Kelly Groucutt was formerly the bass player with none other than ELO!

Finally on February 28th we have another Singers’ Night. Don’t be disappointed, these nights are often over-subscribed so do please contact Debby or Derry on 01384 560462 to ensure you get a floor spot. Or just come and enjoy the talent on display. A good night is guaranteed!

That’s about it for February so hope to see you there.
