The Woodman Song
by: Sue & Paul Matthews

He attended his small plot of land, he put on quite a show
Family and friends would come along, the beer and wine would flow,
He cared for it for 30 years, he worked hard to make it grow
And then because of progress, the Woodman’s got to go

Chorus:
You could hear the Woodman singing, Tales of the Anchorite
Or about the boys of Byker Hill Each and every Friday night
With The King Of My Own Country, and Thorn upon the Rose
After tales of Silver and Gold, the Woodman doors must close

Chorus

So to carry on tradition, in hopes that he could find
Another place to care for, like the one he left behind
He searched around the area, he gave it all he could
And soon you'll hear him singing, down in the Ashwood

Chorus

Lets hope the people follow him, lets hope the futures bright
Lets hope the naughty corner, will still be naughty on the night
Lets hope the beer is plentiful, with jugs of heady foam.
So we can make the Ashwood, our new and happy home

Chorus
