Newsletter May 2007
In our 37th year and stronger than ever
Just a quick note to remind you that this FRIDAY (25th May) we are to be royally entertained by the incomparable MALCOLM JEFFREY. Malcolm is always a popular artist at our Singers Nights so come along and suffer sidesplitting humour, pathos and verbal dexterity with the rest of us.
As we head towards the summer break and the festival season we still have some great guests lined up for your entertainment together with a couple of our famous SINGERS NIGHTS, the first of which is on FRIDAY 1st June.
The following week (FRIDAY 8th June) we say hello to Australian sensation BECK SIAN. Beck was due to be with us earlier in the year but was unfortunately ill. Much has been written about this delightful young lady and we are all looking forward to seeing her.
The following week, FRIDAY 16th June the club will be CLOSED as we will be away celebrating the marriage of Deb & Derry from NOTHING TO PROVE. So itís many congratulations to them both from all at The Woodman.
We return with a bang on FRIDAY 22nd JUNE with firm favourite JEZ LOWE.
Jez has been coming to the club for many years and never fails to delight with his own delightful style. Drawing from his North East homeland he writes songs that are both incisive and humorous.
FRIDAY 29th JUNE we welcome back to the club JAMES FAGAN & NANCY KERR.
Members of two legendary folk dynasties, James & Nancy were the winners of the 2003 BBC Radio 2 Folk Award for Best Duo. They combine highly skilful and innovative performance with accessibility, warmth and stage presence. Rapid musical communication with one another and the audience makes their performance spectacular and unforgettable. This is sure to be an evening to remember and it may be best to get here early.
Every so often an act just turns up at a Singers Night and completely blows us away. Such a case in point is CALIKO who will be with us on FRIDAY 6th JULY. Jo Giles and songwriter Jon Winter blend storytelling of traditional song with the honest laid back feel of acoustic roots music. They impressed us; let them impress you.
We take a break the following week (FRIDAY 13th July) when we are all off to the wonderful BROMSGROVE FESTIVAL. We end the season with a final SINGERS NIGHT on 20th JULY.
We have a great line up for the NEW SEASON that starts on Friday 7th September with a Singers Night. Guests thereafter include Anthony John Clarke, Roger Wilson & Karen Tweed and the one and only VIN GARBUTT!
Look forward to seeing you soon.
So sorry! I forgot to include the competition in the newsletter; so here it is.
