Travelling Girl

Copyright Notice

However much a person loves to travel, part of their thoughts remains with their home. Of course those staying at home share their thoughts with the traveller and to some extent see the world through the traveller’s eyes. This song is dedicated to Marie.

She's standing on the breakwater as the minutes tick on by
She sees a secret sunset through the corner of her eye
She turns round in an instant but the vision it is gone
Moments like this are precious, you've got to savour every one.

She's my travelling girl
She's my travelling girl
She's my travelling girl
Dreaming all the time

She dreams about the future, but it shifts like drifting sand
She wants to own her destiny but it's slipping through her hands
She denies the ties of ownership and lives tomorrow for today
She longs for wings of freedom but deep down wants to stay.

Now the tide is moving quickly - it covers the stone wall
The fishermen are talking above the seagulls' rasping call
The figure looking wistful gazes at the sea
Thinking of the places that she still wants to see.

Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy are sitting by the fire
Laughing in the candlelight as the flames - they flicker higher
Beth turns in surprise to a knocking on the door
It must be the traveller, returning home once more.
